- Reading the room first - walls out of plumb, floors out of level, corners not at ninety degrees - because the trim has to absorb all of it.
- Coping internal corners rather than mitering them, so the joint stays closed when the material moves.
- Scarf joints on long runs placed away from sightlines and backed by solid fixing.
- Fixing into structure rather than into board alone, so the run does not lift from the wall over a season.
- Filling, sanding and preparing joints to the standard required by the final finish.
- Returns and terminations detailed where a run stops against another element, instead of ending in a cut edge.

What to know before work begins
Plumbing, electrical, gas and HVACWhen a project includes work that requires a licensed trade, the appropriate specialist is engaged for that part of the scope.
Other limits
- Crown molding on a ceiling that is not flat needs either scribing or a reveal detail. We will tell you which the room needs before the material is ordered.
- Painting is a separate scope unless it is included in the estimate.
- Trim does not straighten a wall. Where the wall is far enough out that the gap would be visible, that is shown and discussed before installation rather than filled and discovered later.
- Where the substrate will not hold a fixing soundly, the work is not carried out until it will. A run that pulls away is a callback, not a finish.

Who supplies each material is agreed for the project and recorded in the written estimate. We confirm purchasing responsibilities before work begins.
