- Establishing what is load-bearing before anything is cut, and stopping where that question needs an engineer.
- Members sized and spaced for the load and span, not matched to what happens to be there.
- Fixings and connections appropriate to the assembly rather than to convenience.
- Openings framed with the correct support above them, formed before the opening is cut.
- Setting out to the tolerance the finishes will need, since a frame out of plumb becomes every trade’s problem afterwards.
- Leaving the work accessible for inspection where inspection applies.

What to know before work begins
Plumbing, electrical, gas and HVACWhen a project includes work that requires a licensed trade, the appropriate specialist is engaged for that part of the scope.
Other limits
- Structural alteration is not undertaken on the strength of a site visit. Anything load-bearing needs a design professional before it is priced.
- Whether a wall is load-bearing is established before anything is cut, and not by looking at it from one side.
- Roof, foundation and exterior envelope framing are outside this scope.
- Structural alteration requiring design or permit is identified and handed to the discipline responsible. It is not carried out to save a step in the schedule.
- Where the existing structure is not what the work assumed, that is stopped and reported rather than adapted around. A frame built on a wrong assumption is discovered by the finishes.

Who supplies each material is agreed for the project and recorded in the written estimate. We confirm purchasing responsibilities before work begins.
