- Substrate assessment and preparation
- Setting, grouting and sealing
- Layout set out from the room
- Movement joints where required
- Assessing the substrate for flatness, movement and soundness before any tile is ordered.
- Setting out from the room’s sightlines so cuts fall where they are least visible.
- Movement and perimeter joints planned into the layout rather than added at the end.
- Adhesive and grout selected for the tile, the substrate and the exposure, not by convention.
- Full coverage under tile in wet or heavily loaded areas, where voids are where failures begin.
- Edge and transition detail agreed in advance, since it is a visible decision.
If existing conditions require it
What to know before work begins
Existing conditions, access and the sequence of protection and preparation shape the scope.
Plumbing, electrical, gas and HVACWhen a project includes work that requires a licensed trade, the appropriate specialist is engaged for that part of the scope.
Other limits
- Tile in a wet area is a waterproofing job first. We will not set tile in a shower without the assembly behind it being right.
- Layout is agreed before setting begins, because it cannot be changed afterwards.
- Tile is not set over a substrate outside its tolerance. The correction is quoted as separate work first, because installing over it moves the failure into the tile.
- Where waterproofing is involved and cannot be verified, it is replaced or the work is declined. A concealed failure is discovered as damage elsewhere.

Who supplies each material is agreed for the project and recorded in the written estimate. We confirm purchasing responsibilities before work begins.
