Typical scope
- Substrate preparation and assessment before waterproofing
- A waterproofing system appropriate to the assembly
- Movement joints where the installation needs them
- Tile setting, grouting and sealing
- Waterproofing specified as a continuous system, with the membrane, its corners and its penetrations treated as one assembly.
- Slope to the drain formed in the substrate rather than corrected in the tile bed.
- Sealing at changes of plane, at pipe and fixing penetrations, and where the wet area meets the rest of the room.
- Tile set with full coverage in wet zones, where voids behind tile hold water rather than shed it.
- Movement and perimeter joints kept sealant-filled rather than grouted, so the assembly can move without cracking.

What to know before work begins
Plumbing, electrical, gas and HVACWhen a project includes work that requires a licensed trade, the appropriate specialist is engaged for that part of the scope.
Other limits
- We do not tile over an existing waterproofing layer we have not verified, because the failure will not appear until it is expensive.
- Grout is not waterproof. Anyone selling it as the barrier is selling a callback.
- Tile is not set over waterproofing that cannot be confirmed as continuous. A failure here is discovered as damage in the room below, long after the work is signed off.
- Existing waterproofing of unknown age and specification is not built over. Where it cannot be verified, it is replaced or the work is declined.

Who supplies each material is agreed for the project and recorded in the written estimate. We confirm purchasing responsibilities before work begins.
